Commercial Concrete Services in Colorado: Flatwork, Curbing, and More

Not every commercial surface belongs to asphalt. High-load zones, dumpster pads, loading dock aprons, ADA ramps, and fire lanes often demand the structural rigidity and service life that only concrete can deliver. Concrete wears differently from asphalt, handles certain loads better, and in the right applications, it’s the smarter long-term choice even when the upfront cost is higher.

Concrete & Asphalt 4 Colorado handles commercial concrete work across Colorado’s Front Range with the same quality standards and direct communication that define our asphalt services. We’ve been doing this for nearly 30 years, and we’ve seen enough failed concrete work to know where the shortcuts are. We don’t take them.

Why Getting Concrete Right the First Time Matters

For commercial property managers and owners, concrete mistakes are expensive. A poorly poured curb fails at the construction joint and starts spalling within a few freeze cycles. A dumpster pad that’s undersized for the load cracks within a couple of seasons. An improperly prepared sub-base leads to slab settlement, creating tripping hazards and drainage problems. Each of those failures means a service call, a repair cost, and disruption to your property and tenants.

We spec the work correctly from the start. That means evaluating the actual load the surface will carry, preparing the sub-base appropriately, selecting the right concrete mix for the application and the Colorado climate, and placing control joints at the right intervals to direct cracking where it won’t matter. Done right, a commercial concrete surface holds for decades. Done wrong, it becomes a recurring cost.

Commercial Concrete Services We Provide

Concrete Flatwork

Flatwork covers sidewalks, walkways, plazas, courtyard surfaces, and the transition areas between asphalt pavement and building entries. We form and pour flatwork to the correct thickness for the expected load and use, with proper sub-base preparation and control joint placement to manage cracking over time. For ADA-accessible routes, we account for cross-slope and surface texture requirements so the flatwork meets current standards, not just local ones.

Curbs and Gutters

Concrete curbs define parking lot edges, control drainage, and protect landscaping from vehicle intrusion. We install both formed and extruded curbs, including barrier, mountable, and curb-and-gutter combinations. For renovation projects, we can remove and replace damaged sections without disrupting the surrounding pavement. Curb work that isn’t properly bonded to the sub-base tends to tip and shift over time. We address drainage and base conditions before the forms go down.

Dumpster Pads

Dumpster enclosures take a beating. The repeated contact from heavy collection equipment, the concentrated point loads from container wheels, and the freeze-thaw stress from water trapped under the pad all work together to destroy standard asphalt in a few years. We pour reinforced concrete dumpster pads sized for the enclosure and the equipment that services it. The result is a surface that carries the load without crumbling at the edges or forming depressions that trap water and make an already unpleasant area worse.

Concrete Aprons and Load Zone Transitions

The transition from asphalt to concrete at building entries, loading docks, and drive approaches is one of the most common failure points on commercial properties. Differential movement between materials, poor load-transfer design, and inadequate joint detailing all lead to raised lips and depressions that become tripping hazards and drainage problems. We design and install transitions that handle differential movement correctly and manage load transfer across the joint so you don’t end up calling us about a recurring problem at the same spot.

Retaining Walls

Grade changes on commercial properties require properly designed solutions. An undersized retaining wall that fails costs far more to fix than it would have cost to build correctly in the first place. We build concrete retaining walls for parking lot borders, landscape transitions, and elevation changes, integrating drainage and material selection at the design stage. For walls above a certain height, we coordinate with engineering as needed to ensure the design is appropriate for the load.

Concrete Repair and Replacement

Not every failing concrete surface requires full replacement. We assess existing concrete honestly and recommend repair when the surface condition and underlying structure support it. Joint resealing, slab stabilization, spall repair, and surface restoration can extend service life significantly when the base is still sound. When full replacement is the right answer, we handle demolition, sub-base preparation, and pour in a coordinated sequence that minimizes disruption and produces the cleanest possible finished result.

Climate Considerations for Colorado Concrete

Colorado’s climate is demanding on concrete for several reasons. Intense UV radiation at altitude, deep freeze cycles, and widespread use of chloride-based de-icing products all accelerate surface deterioration faster than in milder regions. Concrete that’s appropriate for a parking lot in the Southeast isn’t necessarily the right spec for a surface in Jefferson County.

We account for this at the specification stage. Concrete mix design, water-cement ratio, curing method, and sealer selection all affect long-term durability in Colorado conditions. We don’t use a one-size-fits-all approach because Colorado conditions don’t allow for it. The goal is a surface that performs well through multiple decades of Front Range winters, not one that looks good on installation day and starts scaling two seasons later.

Why You Should Work with Concrete & Asphalt 4 Colorado

We’ve been working on Colorado commercial properties for more than 27 years. We’re licensed and bonded, and we carry workers’ compensation and general liability coverage that protects your property and your organization. Our crews are experienced in coordinating concrete work alongside asphalt projects, which is crucial when undertaking a parking lot renovation that requires both materials. Scheduling concrete and asphalt work together avoids sequencing problems and interface failures that occur when two contractors work the same lot on separate timelines.
